Grammar Dice Game

Inspired by ‘Using games for win-win learning’ Oxford Webinar by John Hughes.

Level: A1-A2, A2+ (adaptable for higher levels)

Aim: to practise Present Simple, Present Continuous, Past Simple, Present Perfect and Future Tenses

Materials: whiteboard and whiteboard markers or a power point slide, three dice of 3 different colors

Students in 2 teams roll 3 dice and make sentences using the words/phrases representing the numbers they rolled. Ss make positive sentences, but also, when instructed by the teacher, form negative and interrogative forms. Here the stress is on practising and distinguishing between different tenses covered in class. The activity can be easily adapted to practise vocabulary and speaking skills.
