Christmas Poster

Level: A1/A2

Aim: to introduce/practise Christmas vocabulary

Materials: paper cut-outs (Christmas vocabulary flashcards and Christmas vocabulary word cards), an A3 format construction paper sheet, a Christmassy decorated box, glue sticks


Stage 1 cut-outs: Santa Claus, a sleigh, a reindeer, a bell, a Snowman, carol singers, a chimney, a candle, a wreath, a Christmas stocking, a Christmas tree, a candy cane, ornaments (decorations), a present.

Stage 2 cut-outs: a mince pie, a gingerbread man, a holly, a cracker, a Christmas pudding, a tinsel, a mistletoe.

Note: Captions to be glued to the piece of cardboard in random order.

 


Stage 1:
T. goes around the desk and hands out/lets each S take 2 cut-outs from the Christmas box, then tells ss how the words are pronounced. T puts a big piece of cardboard with the words written on it on the board and explains that ss are going to make their own Christmas poster. T gives instructions that ss are going to watch a video and stick (use blue tack) the cut-outs they have next to the words written on the cardboard when they hear the word/see the image. T plays the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg__vXsU8xw and stops it after every vocabulary item mentioned allowing ss time to stick the cut-out to the poster (+ after all the cut-outs are used T allows enough time for ss to copy the words in their notebooks).

Stage 2:
T. displays the poster so that every ss can see it and tells ss they are going to watch another video and stick other cut-outs that are missing from the poster. T hands out the rest of the cut-outs from the Christmas box (stage 2 cut-outs), tells ss how the words are pronounced and gives instructions that ss are going to watch a video and stick (use blue tack) the cut-outs they have next to the words written on the cardboard when they hear the word/see the image. T plays the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSbN2W04sxU and stops it after every vocabulary item mentioned allowing ss time to stick the cut-out to the poster (+ after all the cut-outs are used T allows enough time for ss to copy the words in their notebooks).

Stage 3 (optional):
T and SS together write sentences about Christmas traditions in the UK and in the USA.
